Particulates caused 8.5 million deaths in 2018

Wednesday, February 10, 2021

A study estimates that 10.2 million deaths in 2012 were due to fine particulates, dropping to 8.5 million in 2018. Of the 2012 total, 62% were in China (3.9 million) and India (2.5 million). The figures are more than twice as high as previously believed. See the Guardian report from Feb 9th and the published study, in the journal Environmental Research (behind a paywall, unfortunately, but available through university libraries).
